A Rye Brook police sergeant accused of injuring a family with his car and assaulting a mother who confronted him has taken a plea deal, months after the incident first made headlines.

According to a criminal complaint filed June 24, Sgt. Paul Damore allegedly sped past a family during a fireworks event at Onatru Farm Park in Lewisboro. Moments later, when the mother caught up with him at a traffic light and banged on his door, he was accused of getting out and assaulting her.

Damore appeared in court on Tuesday, where prosecutors reduced the initial third-degree assault charge to a single count of disorderly conduct as part of a plea bargain.
