Last week’s sore throat turned into a proper cold, and resulting in being a sniffling and coughing mess. The symptoms gradually lessened only towards the end of this week.
The left wrist is slowly regaining its former range of movement in this second week without a cast, but I would still not be able to put proper body weight on it, no downward dog yoga for me just yet, not that I’ve been doing yoga regularly, but maybe something that would be a good cross-training (or cross-stretching?) from all the cycling to come.

I’ve had a some hea cha (dark tea) this week that I didn’t like at all. Some of these ashy, earthy, and most of all, very leathery tastes are not for me, at least not yet.
This week, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard has been running on repeat at home, oftentimes arranging synth-pop, prog-rock, and heavy stoner songs on the same album. This week’s Jam will, of course, be one of their songs.
Talking about jams, I’ve yet to write a 2025 year in Jams overview. It’s been a rewarding exercise with a playlist that I keep listening to on repeat, multiple times each week. But when I sat down to write about it, I wrote a short musing on handgrinding coffee instead. The brain works in wonderfully mysterious ways sometimes.
I’ve been thinking about changing the way I think about my professional self. This seems to be a sort of coping mechanism for all this Gen AI hysteria and the all hail the stochastic parrot machine vibes (I can’t even use the word vibe anymore without feeling dirty, ugh I hate this). Not that the enterprise software work has ever been particularly exciting, but with the relentless pushing of Gen AI, both into the products we work on, and into our own workflows, work is becoming infuriatingly frustrating and incredibly boring all at the same time.
It’s not a coincidence that for the first time in decades I’ve started private side projects instead of shunning the computer altogether after work. Making quirky web things, far away from unbounded growth, non-deterministic vomit producing machines, and dare I say ... capitalism. They are reinvigorating and helping me reconnect with why I like making things with the help of computers, it’s making quirky web things. Anyway, more of this will be coming in the next weeks and months.
Training is restarting next week, first with a few low-intensity steady state and maybe two tempo steady state sessions sprinkled in.
