I am hosting the IndieWeb Book Club for this month, in which everyone interested is invited to read and write a blog post about The Art of Explanation: How to Communicate with Clarity and Confidence [Goodreads link]. The book was authored by Ros Atkins, a BBC journalist whose career has spanned radio on the BBC World Service and television on BBC News.
I read this book toward the end of last year and loved that the advice given was tactical, engaging, and interspersed with stories. I’d highly recommend it to anyone interested in refining their communication or explanation skills.
The Art of Explanation is quite a long read, and may not be easy to fit into a month. I’d highly recommend reading the introduction and a chapter or two that looks most interesting to you – this will be enough to both give you a feel for the book, (hopefully) many insights, and what you need to write a blog post for the Carnival. If you have time and the motivation, keep reading! I wanted to add the caveat that you don’t need to finish the book because I know how hard it can be to finish a book in a month. I still want you to feel encouraged to pick up this book and read a bit!
If you read any of The Art of Explanation and write a blog post about the book this month, please email me at readers [at] jamesg [dot] blog and I will add your submission to the round-up at the end of the month.
