ERNIE: Teaching Language Models to Learn Real-World Facts

Researchers built a language tool called ERNIE that help computers learn words with real facts behind them. Instead of only guessing single missing words, ERNIE sometimes hides whole entities like names or places, and other times hides full phrases so model must learn the bigger idea. That way it picks up useful knowledge about how words hang together, so it can give more natural replies. In tests ERNIE answered fill-in-the-blank questions better and performed stronger on a bunch of Chinese language tasks, from finding names to judging meaning and emotion.
