#3 Unauthorized access through over-privileged agents
This is one of the most dangerous scenarios.
A hijacked AI agent with access to your* entire* CRM database can leak customer PII and worse, compromise entire supply chains.
This is exactly what happened between March and June 2025. After hijacking a Drift AI chat agent’s GitHub repository, attackers stole OAuth tokens to connect to Salesforce, the world’s leading CRM platform.
The stolen tokens gave the attackers access to connected environments, allowing them to exfiltrate data from trusted companies like Proofpoint, Zscaler, Cloudflare, and Palo Alto Networks.
This devastating breach impacted 700+ organizations worldwide.
Only ONE organization was spared: Okta. And that’s because Okta configured their system so that tokens could only be used from pre-approved, trusted IP addresses. When the attackers tried the stolen key, the connection was instantly blocked.
