NBC News: The Trump Mobile T1 phone, originally marketed as “Made in the USA,” is nearly identical to the two-year-old HTC U24 Pro, a phone made by the Taiwanese company HTC using Chinese parts, according to a technical analysis the repair-guide and parts company iFixit conducted in partnership with NBC News\. That report is paywalled, but NBC News’s five-minute video is on YouTube , and iFixit has a full teardown report of their own \. The only thing that’s surprising is that the Trump T1 do... Photographing this sandstone fin in Arches National Park required a much wider focal length than the 35mm FOV on my Fujifilm X100VI\. The compromise was to turn the camera vertically, take a series of images, then stitch them together rather than a single exposure using a much wider focal length lens\. Being that I have a degree in geology, the folding and deformation of these rocks was fascinating to me so the extra effort was worth it\. \(click to enlarge\) Over the past year and a half, I’... Next week, I will start doing more stuff towards greater independence. From sanding down more wood to going into the countryside more often. It will be “juggling” things to get ready to activate move-on plans in July. Monday will start with paying off one lifetime email upgrade (used for the new backend storage for videos as a onetime investment) and putting another £50 towards my SIPP (will take it up to £450 for this tax year). I will buy some more tools from Lidl on Tuesday and finish orga... Read more ›

This week we have a lot of posts about technology — the kind of tech that analog people might be interested in like a university professor making students type papers on typewriters so they can’t use AI, a flip phone from Commodore (as in 64) and 40 rage-inducing problems in tech which made me laugh… Read more ›
Jay from JaysTwoCents with Steve from our local Australian Hardware Unboxed channel where they discussed a bunch of issues around modern PC building, or lack thereof thanks to the proliferation of “AI” investors and their unprofitable, all-encompassing activities. This lead them to remember what they considered the golden age for the hobby. I will never miss the opportunity to wax lyrical about old and retro computers here! This also concerns a part of my own tech history I haven’t talked muc... Read more ›

On June 11th, PetaPixel published a post entitled Photographers Are Tired of Big Cameras by Jaron Schneider, which had an intriguing premise but fell a bit flat on delivery.
