Apple is bringing Apple Fitness+ to new territories starting from December 15, it has declared, as part of a wider expansion of the service. Consumers in 28 new markets will be able to carry out the workouts using the Apple Watch-enabled tool.
The expansion plans, detailed on Monday, include growing to Chile, Hong Kong, India, the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, and other countries on December 15. There will also be an expansion to Japan early in 2026.
The expansion will eventually result in Apple Fitness+ being available in a total of 49 countries and regions around the world.
Along with a location-based expansion, Apple’s also adding more to the music selection. K-Pop will be a selectable music genre across all workout types.
Jay Blahnik, Apple VP of Fitness Technologies, said the company couldn’t be more excited with the service’s biggest expansion since its launch.
AI assistance
To help with the expansion, Apple is going to be taking advantage of generative AI to localize content. Initially, there will be digitally dubbed versions of workouts and meditations in Spanish and German.
Again, Japanese dubbing will arrive in early 2026, alongside the service itself.
Apple explains that the dubbed audio uses a generated voice based on the actual voice of each of the 28 Fitness+ trainers. Each week, Apple will release new workout episodes dubbed in the languages, as well as the original English version.
The use of machine translation, especially LLM-backed translation, has been a controversial topic in the media landscape lately. For example, there has been incredible pushback for services like Crunchyroll using AI to generate subtitles, which end up being wildly incorrect and inconsistent.
At the least, with Apple’s implementation, the trainers are involved in the generation of the translations, and the original content creator is utilizing the tool.
Users can change the audio language in the audio controller mid-workout, or it can be set to automatically change under the general settings for the app itself.
