It started innocently enough. No, in fact it was as far from innocent as something could go.
Joker murdered his little brother and Bruce was… It broke something in him. He got more violent and reckless until Alfred was forced to put his foot down and locked Bruce out of the Cave for his own, and Gotham’s citizens, good.
Bruce took it well. Too well even.
Nobody suspected a thing despite some strange behaviors. Bruce was grieving his son, so everybody cut him some slack. Which was a mistake.
Before anyone was even remotely aware of what was happening, Bruce already had half of Gotham in his grasp and worked on getting the other half to at least work with him.
Dick didn’t think he would ever see Bruce; the kind, loving man, the Batman feared by the thugs and revered by the victims; as a ruthless mob boss. But here he was, summoned to Bruce’s office with the man boring his cold, emotionless gaze into him while he explained what he wanted from the omega.
“You can’t be serious,” Dick managed numbly. Yeah, the Mission was important, but this? Never, in a million years he would expect Bruce to do this.
“It’s the only way to make sure they will keep to the deal,” Bruce replied as if nothing was wrong with the thing he was asking for. As if even suggesting this to Dick wasn’t something they fought against their entire vigilante careers. “You know how important it is.”
“You can’t just-” Dick started to protest.
“I can and I will!” Bruce growled, slamming his fists on the desk making Dick jump. “You’re my omega and I’m your alpha! You do what I say!” he took a deep breath and sat down again, softening a little. “It will be just this once. I need you to do this.”
And so once turned into two times, that turned into tenths and before he knew it, Dick was pimped out left and right for the pleasure of the alphas Bruce was doing business with.
Dick didn’t know how Bruce didn’t take it into account, but after a pregnancy scare the alpha pumped Dick so full of all kind of contraceptives that he didn’t know which way was up and down. Realizing his mistake when Dick wasn’t able to follow simple orders, Bruce eased some, but still required of Dick to take at least a few of them at all times.
Thus started the ever present haze of the various drugs Dick was forced to take to “fight off the side effects of the contraceptives nothing else, Dick”.
What truly drove home how much Bruce changed and didn’t care anymore about morals or being on the good side was the moment when he dragged Dick out of his nest in the middle of his heat. He carried him to the meeting room and took him on the table for all to see to stake his claim when one of the lesser bosses asked for having Wayne’s omega in heat.
After that Dick became a permanent fixture in the meetings, kneeling at his Master’s feet and attending to his and his "friend’s" needs.
Every attempt at resistance and defiance was immediately and brutally beaten out of him. Bruce knew him well and taught him everything, so all his plans of escape were thwarted and he eventually was forced to surrender when Bruce threatened to kill Alfred.
Justice League was kept away from Gotham, all heroes were banned from entering the city and everyone left it well alone as the crime seemed to drop drastically. Little did they know it was just hidden more thoroughly and nobody would peep a word in fear of the visit from the suddenly murderous Bat.
Dick lost track of time. I could be a few weeks as well as several months or years. It didn’t matter. His entire existence narrowed down to pain, grief, fear and servicing his Master. After some time it was all he knew and it became his routine to the point it took him some time to realize that something had changed.
His first clue was that the drugs stopped. His head was clear for the first time since forever and he was well rested and he didn’t leave his room so far and he wasn’t berated for slacking off on his omega duties.
Oh, shit! Bruce was going to murder him! Or Alfred! Dick scrambled from his bed and to the closet in search of some outfit.
He tripped over his own feet in his haste to get to the meeting room and then Bruce’s office when it was empty, and finally to the kitchen when that too turned out to be Bruce-less.
Alfred was in the kitchen, still alive and unhurt. Dick exhaled shakily, legs weak from relief. He wasn’t responsible for the death of the only person that showed him kindness in however long he was imprisoned at the manor.
Still, it didn’t mean that Alfred was well. The old butler was sitting at the table, hunched over with hands covering his face. His posture radiated pain and defeat and Dick was immediately wary. Something really bad must have happen for Alfred to ignore the simmering pot spilling over on the stove this close to him.
Dick crossed the room and turned it off, then he knelt beside the old man and hesitantly put a hand on his knee.
“Alfred?” Dick whispered. “What’s wrong?”
“Oh, my boy,” Alfred’s hand shook as he cupped omega’s cheek tenderly. “Master Bruce is dead.”
A wave of emotions crashed over Dick. Disbelief, grief, anger. Elation. It was horrible, that Bruce was dead. The alpha was like a father to Dick once and his loss hurt. But now, with his death, he and Alfred could finally be free.
“Red Hood killed him,” Alfred continued. “And he’s coming to claim everything Bruce owned as his own.”
Every hopeful feelings Dick had were snuffed out in an instant.
Such a thing shouldn’t be possible, but Bruce weaved enough archaic traditions into the law to suit his needs, that nobody would bat an eye. And new Alpha meant new rules. All agreements were void now. Dick and Alfred weren’t protected with anything at all now, though thin that protection was anyway. Alfred was an old beta that won’t be much of use to the young powerful Alpha, so he most likely will be retired. Hopefully still alive and far away. Dick, well, for all intents and purposes Bruce owned Dick, and Red Hood was coming to claim him too.
“I’m so sorry, my boy,” Alfred whispered.
“I’m sorry too,” Dick replied, taking Alfred’s hand in both of his own and leaned his head on his knees.
They didn’t move for a long time. In fact they were interrupted by the almost polite cough from the doorway.
Dick scrambled into proper omega submitting position on his knees and Alfred straightened.
“Sorry to interrupt,” the man in black tactical gear said quietly, “but Red Hood wants to meet with Mister Pennyworth in the study right now.”
Dick and Alfred exchanged glances. Red Hood was already in the manor? How did they missed that? So much for Bat-turned-mob-boss-grade security. No wonder Bruce was dead.
“Very well,” Alfred nodded. He carefully extracted himself from Dick’s grip, giving his hand a gentle squeeze before he stood and left to meet his fate.
The man glanced around curiously and left too.
Dick sagged down, glad for being ignored and breathed for a moment to calm down. Red Hood will sent for him sooner rather than later and he should be prepared. But how? He didn’t know the man’s expectations and a mistake could be costly. Eventually Dick decided to go as he was. If the Alpha won’t be pleased he could always claim he didn’t want the staff he brought along to get any ideas before Red Hood got to claim him first. It should appease the Alpha enough to lessen the punishment. If not, well. Dick will get a taste of what his new hell of a life will look like from now on.
