Like Xaya described in my reading habits and bear’s discovery, I would like to think that my "casual reading diet" of blogs evolved into "writing blog posts about the things I’m into." I’m also grateful for having heeded the call to "just start writing and have a place for yourself." You can too.
She found herself "backing away from the discovery page" and "sticking with the people I’ve already been reading from my rss feed". On the contrary, I found myself leaning into reading and remixing people’s posts from discovery mechanisms more over time. Both approaches are viable, with the latter affording me extra resources for looping reading and writing over organizing information. How do you find your fellow creatives on the web?
She soured on Hacker News but I still find it sweet. Inject more discussions about generative AI, technological optimism, and cutting-edge technology into my veins. While it isn’t perfect, its distasteful parts don’t have to mar its "good stuff". I exert the requisite agency to ignore the former. The latter gets saved, internalized, and even incorporated into some of my writing here. Can that new frame return you to "something fun", if not "thoughtful and interesting things"?
When filters show nothing savory, you can replace scrolling through infinite menus with finding another joint. Have a Plan B and C to your Plan A. Inhabit more than one platform and community you "cherish and felt welcomed in". That shares the love, defends against homelessness, and can help prevent skepticism from backsliding into rejection. What spaces would fit the bill?
