During our Iloilo trip last August, my friends thought my handmade bucket hat was cute, so I offered to make some for them too if they like. It’s like my first-ever custom-made order!
Here are the photos!

While I don’t have the row-by-row pattern, I’m listing down the stitches and resources I used if you’re interested!

Materials
I used 6-ply combed cotton yarns fromAshley’s Crochet and a 3.0 mm hook.
Sizing
I asked my friends to send me the circumference of their heads and googled the rest of the sizing process. I used this one mainly.
I also used this formula for a few instances: C=2πr. Whether it was useful is still to be determined, but it was used nonetheless.
Composition
The Top part
I made the top circle with a magic circle and half-double crochets.
The body
Shelly: I did "shelly" stitches all throughout the hat’s body. It’s three double crochets together in one stitch, skip one, and then three double crochets together again until I reach my target length.
Girly: I used linked double crochet for the entire body.
Sunny: For odd rows, I did a repeat of 2 HDC in one stitch, and then skip the next one. For even rows, I did a repeat of 2 DC in one stitch, and then skip the next one.
The Bottom
I did a couple of HDC, and I increased the stitches evenly throughout. For example, if all the stitches at the bottom totalled 30, I increased every 10th stitch, so on and so forth.
The Experience
Since this is the first-ever custom-made wearable project that is not for myself. I felt a bit of pressure wanting my friends not just to like, but love what I made for them.
The Shelly bucket hat was the most experimental one. This was the first time I made a bucket hat for an adult man, so the sizing is different from what I’m used to. I had 3 different versions of the hat, but I ended up with the "shelly" stitches because I thought it looked cute and unique.
The Girly hat was done in one sitting. I knew Sky’s fashion is always something classy and put together, so when I grabbed my yarn and hook, I knew exactly what kind of stitches to do to match Sky.
I was travelling during the time I was making the Sunny hat for Denise. The making of the Sunny hat took place in my home in Calamba, on an HM bus going to Cubao, on a Solid North bus going to Rosales, and in my aunt’s home in Umingan.
The feedback
They looked happy when I handed the hats, so I’m presuming they loved it.
