Commercial planes fly at the speed of 900 km/h while the earth is rotating at 1670 km/h.

Yet somehow, we can sit down on a flight and feel completely still.

That’s because we can’t really notice speed. Or velocity for that matter. We adapt to it way too well, way too quickly. We really only detect acceleration and deceleration: the changes in speed.

Perhaps you realized already: this is not just some physics talk.
