Many young people spend a long time wandering in their youth, some struggle for many years, fight the the good fight and rise to the occasion, they stand strong and become the strong men and women that God intends us to be. Some spend their whole lives wandering, never truly pinning down what it is that they’re meant for in this weary life. I have struggled to find and maintain myself in a true moral way for many years. I have faltered often and gone back not on the core of my actual beliefs necessarily because I truly believe that principles matter above most everything, but my twenties felt like a time where everything I believed was constantly challenged to the highest degree in one major way or another, I’ve had my heart broken, and I’ve felt the fear deep in my heart to try again, but God made me a very hard-headed man. I cannot not act upon that which I believe for long. This steadfastness I believe to come from my father, as I often joke we’re an incredibly hard-headed family. This tendency to be headstrong can be both a major blessing and a real cause of pain for all of us, but I’ve learned to truly appreaciate it.

This year I have spent more time with my dad than I have for many years prior and I’ve decided that 2026 for me will be the year of the oldster. What is the year of the oldster?? Well it’s a year where in my own special way I will try to emulate all of those personality traits that my father holds that make him such an excellent person. My father is the kind of person that would give you the shirt off of his back, he’s the kind of man that puts others ahead of himself, he works very hard, never misses work, rises before the sun and kicks the days butt. He is the kind of man that I strive to be.
