Note: GD = Game Dev - not sure what you were thinking. 🤔
The past weeks, game dev has occasionally crossed my mind.
I think about "doing something" but I just don’t have that strong drive to do it. That’s very strange for me!
Here’s some background...
It was the desire to create games that drove me to learn BASIC followed soon after by Assembly long ago.
And since that time, I’ve created hundreds of prototypes and several full games.

It was the desire to create games that drove me to learn BASIC followed soon after by Assembly long ago.
And since that time, I’ve created hundreds of prototypes and several full games.
For the first (many) years I was much more focused on continually improving my technical design and implementation ability - including testing numerous languages and apis.
That’s an interesting path in itself I’ll write about one day. I progressed from the most simplistic programming style to chasing the latest & greatest "best practices" of abstraction, DI, and so on until finally I threw it all away and created MY way. SIMPLE.
I have a bunch of videos in folders of the best games I worked on during a 5 year period = around 24 of them. Doesn’t include the game dev tools I made. While I had a demanding full-time job!
It’s not just the amount of game dev... also learning additional languages, models and apis.
Granted, after you’ve done this stuff for several years and used a few, everything is basically all the same. Just different words used. 😅
That list includes Monkey X (BASIC), HaxeFlixel (Haxe), GLBasic, NaaLaa 6 (BASIC), Unity (C#), App Game Kit (BASIC and C), PICO-8 (BASIC), TIC-80 (BASIC), Construct 3 and I’m sure several others.
That’s all to illustrate I truly had a passion for game dev!
October, I started having an interest again, installed ncurses, and worked on a Linux console game in C.
But I just lost interest. Where did that passion go? 😅
It’s my guess I was just so burned out that I needed time to just truly RELAX.
I can kind of feel it... starting to come back. 😉
Maybe by the end of the year I’ll be developing again!
