I generally don’t write short stories, and I haven’t touched crime in years, but I was inspired the other day and decided to write a crime short story. I titled it “Scratch,” and I’m still deciding whether to share it here.

I generally don’t write short stories, and I haven’t touched crime in years, but I was inspired the other day and decided to write a crime short story. I titled it “Scratch,” and I’m still deciding whether to share it here.
Don’t get me wrong; it’s a good story, and I’m proud of it, but I’m unsure whether people coming here are ready to get clobbered between the eyes by the sort of crime fiction I write. Those CWA Dagger nominations didn’t come from under a cabbage leaf. I write uncompromising crime fiction that is designed from the ground up to engage your moral center.
I considered trying to find a home for the story, but most of the old crime outlets that existed when I was in the genre years and years ago have ceased operations, and I figure if I’m going to get posted on somebody’s website for free, it may as well be my website, y’know?
As a result, I might start posting stories and then link to them from a separate page, building an online anthology of my work across various genres. I have all kinds of stories, from fantasy to horror to crime to literary, so they aren’t all a shock to the system. It’s just a question of whether people will read, or even want to. I don’t want to post these stories here for no one to enjoy. That’s a waste.
I guess we’ll see.
