9 months ago I created [this page](tab: https://whimsies.bearblog.dev/My-Favorite-Tools/) to talk about my favorite tools. 9 months later, as things tend to do, quite a bit has changed. So I’m rounding up what’s changed, noting everything that’s stayed the same, and what I’m trying out in my digital system.
What has changed:
Plinky → Raindrop: I’m a chronic link hoarder who is trying desperately to change her ways. After using Plinky and Raindrop both for a couple of months, I ultimately decided to switch to Raindrop. What prompted the change: Raindrop’s online interface and permanent copies feature. I bought the yearly subscription which is $28 USD. Right now I’m really happy with it (with the exception of a few bugs here and there, but nothing’s perfect) and I’m slowly culling back my link collection to make it more useful.
No longer using:
- DayOne Journal
- SuperNotes
- Chronicalling
I did a big audit of my app subscriptions a couple months ago and got serious about the stuff I was paying for just because I’ve been using them for a long time, not because they still work for me. I’m taking the minimalist approach to the number of apps I’m spreading my brain across next year, so my goal is to keep looking for tools that allow me to do everything I need without having to wonder where I put something.
What has stayed the same:
- Voicenotes
- Cooked
- FocusPomo
Though it may seem counter-intuitive to my desire to be a minimalist when it comes to the number of apps I use, having apps that only do specific things reduces the amount of time I spend looking for things.
What’s new:
Craft doc: I have been a long time Notion user who has been trying to leave for a long time. I finally took the leap and started using Craft and I love it! It’s super flexible and is a great place to store documents and PDFs.
What I’m experimenting with:
Ulysses: I’m on the hunt for a writing tool that makes it easy for me to switch from writing on my phone to my laptop. So far I’m liking it, but I’m not sure if I really want to pay for another app when, while feature poor, Google Docs is getting the job done.
Tomorrow I’ll pop back in to chat about my analogue updates. There’s been quite a few >_<.
