We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Masks! (?) (2021) I saw that an event was scheduled for Friday at the Town Square which coincided with my curbside pickup at Chautauqua Natural Foods across the street. Some anti-vaxxers had organized the gathering to bring back some normalcy after a couple years of isolation during the pandemic. Handshakes, hugs, smiles, and danceable music was promised with a didgeridoo band, masks not required out in the great outdoors. When the time came to pick up my food order I put on my favorite shirt, my new hat, and took my grabber as a dancing prop. If I heard any danceable music from the parking lot I would go across the street to check it out. When I got there I found an acceptable pulsing beat drifting over so I popped my mask in my pocket and went to check it out. There were a couple dozen anti-vaxxers, along with some curious jab-ees like myself no doubt, mingling about in little groups along the edge of the square while the didgeridoo guy laid down his seductively repetitive sounds at the stage area. One young woman was doing her very slo-mo dance near the musician when I exploded on to the scene with my grabber, an homage to seniors and Fred Astaire. I rocked that beat recklessly without fear just as I had a hundred times in my living room this year and when I got back to my car a few minutes later I was shivering with electricity, a sensation which lasted another half hour. I hope they do it again, jeez, I guess anti-vaxxers do have more fun!
