In many other stories the MC might be a nerd but thats as a suppliment to his character, in this one his character is developed to supplement being a nerd. In a world where the powerful can do as they wish a man who just wants to read, experiment and learn has to get to some degree of power to do it. As the story progresses he gains more power and skill with his techniques but you can see him falling down the rabbit hole of experimentation and theories to become something quite remarkable.
The plot is good, the characters are interesting and the character growth is first class. Can’t wait for more

I like the sense of humor and banter the MC has with those around him and the cliches he avoids. Book one was very well done. Book two was pretty good as well but there was some things that started to bug me by the end of book two. Book 3 I felt like there was a major shift in tone and plot direction. The author got a bit more long winded at times and I couldn’t get invested in what was going on. Maybe there was just not enough foreshadowing or mystery but the struggle and growth wasn’t there and the MC starts to feel like he has major Plot armor that the author was explicitly trying to avoid him needing in the first book. Give it a shot. It has some good length and some great one liners.
Cheers!

In all honesty his decision to side with song san made no sense to me.
Why
She is a cruel n evil person.
Why would he risk his life to save her?
Why?
Its never explained n that put me off so much.
He has been shown to have mercy n be kind-hearted to normal ppl. So why would he be supportive of someone who kills ppl for minor inconveniences. That made no sense to me.
It still doesn’t.
Did he some how develop a crush?
How? Why? He doesn’t care for money or power, so what does he love Abt her? Its definitely not her stunning personally
The MC is going against everything we thought he believed in so I’m done

Overall
Not much to say, it is pretty good. The mc stays consistent. The story is well told. There are interesting and new elements here and there. Storytelling only include interesting and relevant elements. We can see how others see the mc (while he views himself as perfectly normal, others view him as a bit crazy for being a nerd). It is an entertaining and slow journey.

This novels name is quite accurate, as this mc is more interested about HOW cultivation works more than gaining said power through cultivation. He wants to uncover its secrets and catalogue it all. Power coming alongside his journey is simply a side effect.
its very fun to read, and there were no points that felt like filler at all to me. The mc progresses at a slow and steady pace, not like the golden child the world bends over backwards for the make stronger like other novels. Every step forward feels earned through research and consistent training.
this cultivation story isn’t like any other i’ve read before, and likely the same for you. This is one of the rare gems that reignites your interest in a genre, making you want to look for more.
give it a shot. A must read on RR for me.

I’ve absolutely adored this book so far. It perfectly balanced the immersive slice-of-life, raw action, and show-don’t-tell world building I love. It is such an enjoyable and lighthearted read that made me regret how quickly I binged it.
Thank you, author, for blowing my mind and brightening my day. 🥰🥰

As an avid xianxia reader, this story caught my eye when it only had a few chapters out. I had to give it a read and I am so glad I did!
STYLE SCORE: 5/5 HolyMouse does a great job blending first person POV and third person POV, the switch is seamless. I’m accustomed to reading third person POV but the way the author is able to make Liu Feng relatable through first person POV makes for a great read. As for the descriptions, the author includes the relevant descriptions and it’s typically done in Liu Feng’s POV so you can’t expect intricate details as that wouldn’t be realistic. If I woke up in another world, I would not be describing every building structure in my head with microscopic detail. The author keeps it clean and to the point, I like that.
STORY SCORE: I will try my best to avoid spoilers. This is a xianxia isekai done realistically. What would be the first thing you do if you woke up in a xianxia world? Well, the smart thing to do would be to read, read, and then read some more. And that is exactly what Liu Feng does which makes it really easy to immersive yourself into this world, the author keeps it realistic and fun! I like comedy and I love how HolyMouse integrates it seamlessly into the story, one of the ways that made me laugh was when Liu Feng would realise that cultivators really were as crazy as the cultivation novels he read. The author doesn’t need to include fights in every chapter to make things exciting, just the way the author shows Liu Feng learning about the world creates intrigue and tension, I genuinely want to see how far our mc can go! This also means when there is a battle, it has a greater impact. Little spoiler, an interesting thing that I haven’t really seen before is that the mc creates his own status page.
GRAMMAR SCORE: 5/5, perfect grammar or at least perfect enough to keep me immersed.
CHARACTER SCORE: Each character has their own distinct voice. Li Feng actually sounds like someone who has been isekaid and not another typical xianxia protagonist. The janitor scene in particular made me laugh because in a world where old cultivators love to be wolf in sheep’s clothing, you need to respect everyone unless you want to end up as a “fleshy smudge.” No spoilers about the janitor so let’s discuss the difference between the original Liu Feng and our mc, it is huge, the original is not-so-likable while our mc is likeable and relatable. The main thing I like about the mc is that he is learning, and no, I’m not just referring to book-learning, I’m talking about new experiences (getting ambushed by bandits), the mc doesn’t act like he’s experienced it a thousand times before and it’s a regular Sunday. I like how the mc looks back at Liu Feng’s actions like they were illogical cos they usually were. E.g. the original being too arrogant to remember his friend’s name…
Our mc is a smart logical person that wouldn’t be dumb enough to walk to his death, rather, he would use his xianxia tropes knowledge to avert it if not turn it in his favour or help others. The other characters’ reaction to the mc is hilarious. HolyMouse also does a great job showing that not everyone in the xianxia world are cliches but there are wise and logical people too.
Overall, I would recommend this story to all xianxia readers and even those that have never read xianxia, I feel like this is a great story to start with! It will likely be one of the top xianxia in this site!

Overall
This book sinks its hooks into you from the very beginning—not with a roar, but with a quiet promise: that greatness lies ahead, if only you’re willing to walk the long, treacherous path to reach it. It’s a cultivation story in the truest sense—one that doesn’t rush, but builds with purpose, layering struggle upon struggle like the rings of a growing tree.
Every chapter feels like a step in a larger journey—not just toward power, but toward self-understanding, revenge, freedom, or some elusive ideal only the protagonist truly grasps. The world is unforgiving, bound by ancient laws, unspoken hierarchies, and mystical forces that feel at once familiar and refreshingly original. The way strength is earned—never handed out—gives every breakthrough a weight that hits hard.
The pacing is deliberate but never slow. Challenges come not only from powerful foes or cruel sect politics, but also from within. Pride, doubt, obsession, and loss—they all shape the path as much as any divine technique or ancient treasure. The cultivation system itself is intricate and thoughtfully woven into the story, enhancing the tension without ever turning into exposition.
What truly sets this book apart is how immersive it becomes. You feel the grind, the solitude, the desperation to grow stronger in a world that demands it or crushes you. And when those hard-won moments of transcendence come, they feel earned. It’s not just about power—it’s about transformation.
For anyone who loves tales of perseverance in the face of impossible odds, of silent rebellions that shake the heavens, this story doesn’t just draw you in—it makes you live every breath of the journey.
