Liverpool City Council has launched a new programme to support grassroots music venues.

Launched in partnership with the Music Venue Trust (MVT) and funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the new programme will offer dedicated grants to incentivise promoters to platform local talent, alongside business support to help both new and long-standing venues.

Venues and promoters are able to apply to participate in the scheme via a form on Liverpool City Council’s website, with applications open until February 13. Grants of up to £3,000 will be distributed to successful applicants, allowing for "six nights of live music programming."

According to a description, priority will be given to applicants operating in venues with a capacity of under 300, and newly-established spaces looking to platform "new, original music by Liverpool-based artists".

The programme will also offer business support, advice, workshops, and mentoring as part of a bespoke package from MVT to help "diversify audiences, and respond to evolving trends across the live music sector."

According to MVT, the programme will also recommend promoters for the Music Futures Promoter Development Project, which supports promoters from under-represented backgrounds and genres.
