Nadia Massih is pleased to welcome Dr. Tobias Scholz, Asia Associate in the Research Cluster of Cybersecurity and Digital Policy at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs. After nearly two decades of on-again, off-again negotiations, the EU-India trade agreement has been signed and is awaiting ratification in a shifting geopolitical landscape. As Dr. Tobias Schultt explains, Russia’s war on Ukraine, the rise of economic protectionism, and a recalibration of global partnerships have pushed both the EU and India to re-evaluate each other’s strategic and economic relevance. Unlike the contested Mercosur deal, the EU-India pact is gaining support, largely due to its exclusion of sensitive agricultural sectors and India’s growing economic and political stature.
