2027: A Year in Review is a comedic zine by London-based graphic designer Tommy Evans that presents an intentionally overbearing summary of a fictional future year. Designed as a parody of annual reviews, cultural roundups and encyclopaedic reference books, the publication offers a full account of the Whom, What, Wez, Wings and Know of the year 2027. Across more than 120 pages, the zine delivers an avalanche of invented facts, observations and distractions, ranging from pond depths and film reviews to circular summaries of events that never happened.

The project began as a portfolio experiment. Evans was exploring a low-fi, hands-on graphic style and wanted a format that allowed room for physical craft, playful layout and deliberate imperfection. As the idea developed, a group of comedy writer friends became involved, and the project expanded rapidly. What started as a small design exercise grew into a fully realised almanack that was eventually picked up and published by Ralph Magazine under Ralph Entertainment.

From a graphic design perspective, the publication leans heavily into tactility and visual humour. The spreads are dense, busy and intentionally overwhelming, filled with layered information, awkward pacing and visual jokes that reward slow, distracted reading. The design embraces physical craft and manual composition, positioning itself in opposition to the clean, automated aesthetics that dominate much contemporary digital design.
Editorially, the writing follows a similar logic. Familiar cultural formats are used as a framework for farce, presenting an exaggerated version of British life through irreverent prose and absurd detail. The tone is knowingly unserious and avoids any attempt at moral resolution or commentary. As Evans himself puts it, “In other words, it’s just a bit of fun. Something to have on your coffee table, but most likely read on the toilet.”
2027: A Year in Review sits somewhere between graphic design showcase, collaborative comedy project and printed artefact. It demonstrates how print can still function as a space for excess, humour and experimentation, while giving Evans a platform to explore a distinct visual language rooted in craft, play and curiosity.
Tommy Evans is a graphic designer based in London, working across music, editorial, branding and advertising. His work often balances concept and humour, with print playing a central role in his practice.
