Last night, I partitioned the hard drive on my ThinkPad and installed EndeavourOS—a distribution of Arch Linux.
I had previously tinkered around with Ubuntu but it never took. Here goes a new attempt at embracing open source software and exploring whether I can wean myself off the Apple ecosystem.
(At least in part—my work keeps me firmly entrenched in the world of Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and PowerPoint decks, and LibreOffice ain’t going to cut it).
In addition, I thought it could be fun to test out projects in a new developer environment that allows me to work with the ThinkPad Gen 8’s delightful keyboard.
After installing a few essentials, my first project was setting up Syncthing so that my Obsidian Vault syncs across my Mac and Linux devices.
Absolutely seamless two-way syncing.
It has been straightforward to install my password manager, VS Code, LibreOffice, and a GUI installation for my VPN through the terminal.
And the OS is snappy.
We’ll see how it goes!
