Last December, I was dying in bed blogging about being 4 days post-op from a Septoplasty procedure, which is a surgery that straightens your septum so that you can breathe better. That surgery turned out to be a failure. Apparently, Septoplasty surgeries have a relatively high chance of resulting in your septum re-deviating over time. Mine did about 3 months post-op, so this year I found a new surgeon and got scheduled for a revision surgery as soon as I possible could to try again.

My septum was getting progressively worse as the year went on. So much so that my new surgeon told me this week that my septum would have continued to buckle and eventually collapsed if I hadn’t gotten a revision surgery done.
My septum used to look like this after the first surgery: |
But then became this after 11 months: C
Reading that old blog post I wrote is funny because my mind was all over the place. I have the same plastic stents up both my nostrils again for the next week, so I can barely think. This blog post is also going to come out sounding scatter-brained, but it’s okay because I want to write while I’m feeling crazy.
I got the surgery again last Thursday (today is Sunday). This surgery was especially painful because since this was a revision, I didn’t have enough septum left to remove. So, my new plastic surgeon had to cut into my rib and take cartilage, so that he could create more structure in my nose.
If it wasn’t for the rib cutting, the pain would be mostly minimal. But the rib pain is making basic tasks impossible. I can get out of bed easily if someone helps me up. But I had to figure out a strategy if I’m alone, which is: roll to one side of the bed, brace my hands on my nightstand and the wall, while putting one foot on the floor, and push myself up as fast as possible.
I also can’t get my face wet because I have a brace on my nose holding it together, so I have to wait for my girlfriend to get home to help me wash my disgusting greasy hair.
Overall, this is a week from hell. Everything hurts, I can’t breathe, I can only focus on reading or watching a TV show for about 10 minutes. And I don’t get these plastic stents out of my nose for another 5 days. I really hope this surgery works and I never have to do this again.
