It’s time for another update to Ecliptic!
In the months since the last release there’s been quite a few changes to the game - a new level, many bug fixes and a big change to how the game plays -
Ecliptic is a bit of an experiment to see if an entire RPG type game could work with gameplay like the Gold Box combat mode. While it does seem to work reasonably well, the game can be a bit slow when you have to move the robots a long distance.
To alleviate this a bit, the game now only enforces turns when there are active monsters in play. When there are no monsters around, the game ignores turns and action points, making for faster play. However, as soon as you encounter a monster, turns are enabled and it is the monster’s turn making it risky to blunder wildly into unknown territory.

Along with the gameplay change, there is a new level - Deck 6: The Swarm - where your robots must repair the ship’s engines while fighting off a horde of nasty alien bugs.
Some of the other changes in this build are:
- Improved monster path-finding.
- More keyboard controls - it should be possible to perform any action in the game without touching the mouse, if you want.
- Some more weapons - every spaceship needs a chainsaw, right?
- As always: numerous bug fixes!
