Ukraine highly values its strategic partnership with the Republic of Azerbaijan, said Ukraine’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev, in his article on the occasion of his country’s Unity Day, APA reports.
According to him, this is based on mutual respect, trust, and the shared commitment to the fundamental norms of international law.
The diplomat noted that Azerbaijan consistently supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and provides significant humanitarian aid: “This week, on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, another batch of humanitarian aid was sent to Ukraine. This aid includes powerful generators, transformers, electric cables, and low-voltage panels. We sincerely thank the Azerbaijani leadership and people for their solidarity and this important support to Ukraine during a difficult period, as well as for the rehabilitation and recovery program for Ukrainian children from affected regions, the restoration of social facilities in the city of Irpin, and the supply of medicines, food products, fuel, and equipment necessary for the restoration of Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure.”
Yuriy Husyev emphasized that Ukraine, in turn, has always supported Azerbaijan, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and continues to do so.
The ambassador highlighted that energy cooperation holds a special place on the bilateral agenda: “In 2025, the signing of an agreement between Naftogaz Ukraine National Joint Stock Company and SOCAR for the supply of a pilot batch of Azerbaijani natural gas to Ukraine via Türkiye, Bulgaria, and Romania was a real breakthrough for Ukraine in diversifying energy supply sources and strengthening Europe’s energy security. Ukraine is interested in further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of energy, logistics, energy resource transportation, the development of renewable energy sources, and infrastructure modernization.”
“The strategic partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring security, stability, and development in the Black Sea–Caspian region. The active mutual engagement of our states within international organizations and the support they provide to each other confirm the strategic nature of Ukraine–Azerbaijan relations and their focus on defending the universally recognized principles of international law.”
Yuriy Husyev added that in 2026, Ukraine is committed to further deepening comprehensive cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan, implementing joint projects in the energy sector, transportation and logistics, attracting investments, healthcare, education, and culture: “We are confident that the development of Ukraine–Azerbaijan strategic partnership will continue to contribute to strengthening regional security, economic growth, and the establishment of a just peace based on sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles of international law.”
Note that Ukraine celebrates Unity Day on January 22.
