I can’t think of a more meaningful song to share in what I hope to be a series of posts about the music I love.
I first learned about Swim Surreal from mylick which is one of the best vinyl pages I follow.
I still can’t completely solve the mystery of who swim surreal is. There’s clearly some connection to Zero7, but honestly, whoever it is should be proud of the album In The Half Light. It’s as close to perfect IMHO and Back to Earth happens to be my favourite cut off the record.

I still can’t completely solve the mystery of who swim surreal is. There’s clearly some connection to Zero7, but honestly, whoever it is should be proud of the album In The Half Light. It’s as close to perfect IMHO and Back to Earth happens to be my favourite cut off the record.
It’s subjective enough to be relatable. The gist is that we sometimes live in a state of mental or emotional high, but eventually have to come back to earth and face reality. My interpretation is that reality isn’t cruel, it’s just less magical than what came before.
There’s no central story making the song accessible for those living in the nuance of love, escaping through fantasy, or a period of hope and imagination.
Anyways, all that’s to say, the song has a pretty cool meaning all while being sonically and melodically perfect. Enjoy!
