The first edition of Emerging Paths was a supplement for Knave 2e. It included some solo game tools and a few home-brew adjustments that I used with that rule set. This edition is an expansion of the first and is a complete game with a basic set of supporting tables and tools. Complete in the sense that you can solo game with just this volume, but basic in the sense that it facilitates the use of the wider set of gaming books and tools that are available. As such, I still strongly recommend you get a copy of Knave 2e. It’s wealth of d100 tables can be used to enhance those you will find in this tome.

This volume opens with world-building processes, tables, and advice to help you create at the global level and right down to the very local level. Following this there are sections on adventurer creation and magic. This is a further development of the tailored game mechanics that I originally explored in the first edition.
The Gameplay and Oracle sections outline procedures to guide your game sessions. This includes an updated version of my Guidance roll table and the Oracle system.
Following this is a broad selection of random tables and a simple bestiary. These tables, while diverse, are deliberately limited in length - you will find most of them being d4-d8 tables. This is because I wanted to provide a complete guide, so if you are traveling you can just grab this one book. But, I also wanted to encourage you to explore and use the wealth of other resources that are out there to help expand the potential of your gaming.
Finally at the end of the tome you will find a section discussing the inspirations for this work and a selection of additional resources that you can explore in expanding and deepening your solo TTRPG experience.
