Yesterday was the last day of school for the year, its now the summer holidays(in australia). My home room teacher and I had a fish tank setup with a dozen or so guppies and some neon tetras for most of the year. Unourtunately a new year level leader came in recently and they don’t like much of this ‘personal expression’ thing.
More complaining about this new year level leader. for over a decade my home room teacher has made a wall showcasing all of the things students have made for her - she has been told this needs to be ‘permenantly removed as it is a distraction to childrens learning’. The same thing with the fish tank, the new leader says kids will get distracted. an indigenous and an australian flag have also been hung over a wall in my home room for many years and now we have to take it down. yay.
In an unpublished writing piece of mine about school being a prison, and concerns voiced from many of my peers, "We are robots held hostage in a prison". Our learning environments are becoming increasingly bland, a blank white wall makes me anxious personally but statistically it improves learning - i have no source for this.

Anyway, the interesting thing i have to say.
I now have a fish tank, for the first time in nearly 2 years there are fish in my house.
Yesterday my teacher gave me a dozen guppies from the tank because she said she didn’t have the space for them and knew i would keep them safe.
I had no equipment. Or food
So today I went into the city, walked to 3 different aquarium shops before finding a single shelf in a dog and cat specialised pet store with a heater that wasnt stupidly expensive, the funny thing is that it was the same model and spec as the ones the deticated aquarium suppliers told me was good, but it was half the price. Anyway, then I went to kmart and got the cheap 20L tank and filter combo from there, came home, no water ager or conditioner, and moved my guppies from a probably very ammonia dense 2L tub to the new 20L tank full of tap water.

A few hours later thay are looking happy. just piling in one corner actually iI thiunk the heater is up to high, they are stayying away from it.. ill fix that.
Just changed the heater from 25 to 22, the tank they used to live in was a bit colder because we only had a 25W for a 50L tank and i also have a 25W heater.

Anyway, I hope to get some more plants than the duckweed that ended up in the tub of guppies i took home from school.
