January is the perfect month to curl up on the couch and stream new movies or binge on the latest series as the holidays wind down. Netflix, the largest streaming platform, always delivers new original content alongside an ever-growing library of classic titles.

To kick off the new year, the streaming giant is bringing a few action-heavy titles, some addictive murder mysteries, and a little bit of romance.

‘His & Hers’ (Limited Series)

A six-episode psychological mystery thriller, His & Hers follows Anna (Tessa Thompson), a retired news anchor living in isolation, who is brought into the spotlight when she decides she is the only one who can uncover the truth behind a murder in her small, sleepy Georgia hometown of Dahlonega. Her involvement in the case puts her at odds with her estranged husband, Detective Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal), who questions her role in it.

An ensemble series that delves into the dark secrets of a remote town,* His & Hers aims to capture crime and Americana with a dark psychological twist. The series already has some fanfare leading up to it, being adapted from the acclaimed novel by Alice Feeney, who has risen to become one of the most recognized names in delivering psychological suspense and mystery. The series is also led by showrunner Dee Johnson, who has worked on a wide variety of shows, including ER, Nashville, The Good Wife, Southland, and Commander in Chief*. His & Hers is available to stream on January 8, 2026.

‘People We Meet on Vacation’ (2026)

Poppy Wright (Emily Bader) and Alex Nilsen (Tom Blyth) have built up a friendship over years of vacationing together every summer. The two have very different personalities: Poppy is a free-spirited traveler, while Alex is a career-driven professional who values stability. The two manage to keep up their ritual until a falling out ends their plans. Poppy decides to give it one more go after a few years’ absence, but this trip sees the duo confronting past emotions they had ignored.

People We Meet on Vacation marks the anticipated adaptation of the novel of the same name by Emily Henry. Still, the chemistry between Bader and Blyth, combined with the film’s scenic locations, makes for some very swoon-worthy romance for fans of the genre. People We Meet on Vacation is available to stream on Netflix on January 9, 2026.

‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ (Limited Series)

Netflix has become the home of clever yet quaint, cozy murder mysteries, with standout titles like The Thursday Murder Club and *Enola Holmes, *and the newest miniseries, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, looks to continue this trend. Set in 1925 England, *Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials *turns a lavish tea party into a crime scene when a prank seemingly goes "murderously wrong." Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent (Mia McKenna‑Bruce) finds herself drawn into solving the murder, navigating past secrets and an eccentric cast that is looking to protect itself.

The new limited series obviously carries that "classic Christie appeal," bringing her 1926 novel to the screen for the very first time. Of course, the impressive ensemble cast, which includes icons like Helena Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman, certainly does not hurt in bringing the appeal to a broader audience. Moreover, quality is essentially a guarantee here, with Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall writing and producing the new Netflix Original. Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is available to stream on January 15, 2026.

‘The Rip’ (2026)

The loyalty between a tight-knit team of Miami police officers — including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as two of the cops — is put to the test when they discover millions of dollars in cash during a routine bust. What at first feels like a chance for a break and a new life soon turns into a deadly game as word spreads and trust wears thin.

The Rip will have that gritty crime edge that so many fans of the genre crave, with Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin’ Aces) acting as writer and director. Of course, the pairing of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck also offers up that star power of two action staples. While the series has seen minimal buzz leading up to its release, this one is certain to quickly climb the Netflix charts and become one of the most-watched and talked-about titles to kick off 2026. The Rip is available on Netflix on January 16, 2026.

‘Bridgerton’ (Season 4)

The lush and regal Regency-era blend of romance and drama has captivated audiences for three seasons, with its fourth marking Bridgerton as must-watch TV for fans of swoon-worthy period pieces. This season sees Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) falling for the anticipated new addition, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), delivering a Cinderella-style romance that has many fans excited.
