I have not. Though I learned of it rummaging through archives and internet history.
Dungeons of Daggorath is considered to be one of the first if not the first FPS dungeon crawlers. I am not trying to infringe on copyright or even attempting to recreate it. I think this game stands on its own. However, I am really invested in archaic games like it. I missed out on what it must’ve been like, sitting in front of your computer screen late at night with the niche hobby of computer games. We’re far from those days, but the feeling of wanting an experience like that captivates my imagination.
I like everything about that game. I thought I could do something very close to that experience.

In fact, I thought the graphical interface for DoD was so unique and a perfect example of graphics needing to be interpreted rather than explained that I developed a game concept with the visuals in mind.
The story is done. I mean, it isn’t written in any real sense, but the premise is very basic.
You play as a Knight defending the kingdom of RAM. (at least that’s the rough draft of it). Why RAM ? Because it is meant to be inside of your PC! The king lends his powers to you, in the form of a prosthetic. Your goal is to fight a few monsters using his technologically advanced "weapon".
The gameplay (?)
Well, that is also a fairly simple and straightforward idea. The gameplay is to mix and match RGB colors with different orientations of a specific shape. I struggled with this part for a looooooong time. It went through so many variations, but I settled on what I knew best. Something that had also deeply affected me. David Bowie’s Blackstar. I don’t know how I learned this (it was likely Wikipedia), but the album cover spells out BOWIE. I swear if it wasn’t for that album cover, I would still be struggling to conceive of the main gameplay mechanic. Click the link. Or look it up yourself. The triangles. The star shape. That’s what I have in mind.
A first-person perspective and an onslaught of enemies of which you have to "match" to deploy an attack.

I didn’t want to make some generic white dude! Not like I don’t like guys, far from it, but this whole video game scene is full of males! So I thought to make them gentile and cool. That’s what I think it looks like to be those things. I did model it somewhat after myself though even that I thought would be too pronounced. Do I like being that pale misanthrope with a stomach for treason and bounties? yes!!! But this story requires hope.
PROGESS:
I started to actually use GitHub. I made it when I first got my PC. It felt less bs* than linked-in, and I saw their promotional video with a rubber duck and was sold on it, so, I made the account but never updated it even though I’ve been coding for just about a year now. After pro-wrestling-text-adventure I felt better about what I was able to accomplish. My newly found confidence in computer science is making me a more committed coder. You can check the progress through the link. It’s an open-source game so you can modify it. I don’t mind.

I started with just a triangle. Rotating it and changing its color. In my mind and on notes both offline and online I worked through several different versions that were a lot more complicated. I kept thinking I needed the shapes to build upon one another, much like a rectangle is to a square. And other shapes came to mind as well, which further complicated development. Development starts off as a big chunk of cheese or a big bite out of something you want, and the goal is to condense it. I learned that through making games. It isn’t leaving anything out or in the cutting room floor it’s fitting it into a project that works. I thank programmers for that workflow, but getting to this point creatively cost a lot of time alone, a lot of time being lied to and led into dead ends. It took reading a lot of books and doing things that weren’t popular. Mistakes and misunderstandings. These are the games I wanted to make when I was getting ready to go to high school. I didn’t know how, but my dissatisfaction grew to a tipping point. With zero to no safety net, I set out to do what my mind has been working on doing for most of its life. I am fortunate enough to make the most out of it. Otherwise, no one would lend me the power of a workforce to make games with queer or ambiguous qualities. Even now it barely certifies anything other than hard work. I want people to get it. It’s too frequent I feel dismissed, but oh well I’m living out my dreams. That’s probably it.
Coordinating the eyeballs for the final boss was easy pickings
I included for the EXE a file from Wikimedia Commons. The file was of a RAM by Renouvo2000 their name and source was added to the README.md file inside of the zip file.
