HP (Hewlett-Packard) has unveiled the EliteBoard G1a Next Gen AI PC, a remarkably slim and lightweight keyboard with an integrated computer system, scheduled for release in March this year.
The EliteBoard G1a measures just 17 millimetres in thickness and weighs 630 grammes (1.4 pounds, making it roughly half the weight of a conventional laptop. Designed for mobility, the device supports external 4K monitor connectivity and offers a battery life of up to 3.5 hours per charge.
According to HP, the concept for the all-in-one keyboard was born from observing hybrid work trends. Designers noticed that many users connect their laptops to external monitors only to close the laptop lid immediately. This led to the question: "If an external monitor is already being used, why not put the computer inside the keyboard?"
The hardware distinguishes itself from standard mini personal computers (PCs) through its high level of customisability. Users can remove the back cover to swap or upgrade components, including DDR5 SODIMM RAM, M.2 NVMe SSDs, batteries, speakers and fans. The keyboard panel itself is also spill-resistant and replaceable.

The American tech company will offer the device in two configurations. One features a fixed USB-C cable but includes an additional USB4 port and a bundled wireless mouse. The second variant offers a detachable USB-C cable for greater flexibility.
To appeal to professional typists, the EliteBoard G1a features tuned key travel to replicate a desktop experience and includes a full numpad. This positioning aims to provide a desktop-grade feel in a highly portable format for off-site work.
However, the device’s ultra-slim profile presents certain practical challenges. Despite its portability, the lack of a built-in display means users must still carry a portable monitor. Furthermore, the limited 3.5-hour battery life and the presence of only two USB-C ports may necessitate the use of additional docks or power banks.
Similar issues have been observed with handheld gaming PCs used for productivity, where the peripheral count often negates the initial weight savings of the core device.
The HP EliteBoard G1a Next Gen AI PC is expected to be available on HP.com in March. Final pricing will be disclosed by the manufacturer closer to the launch date.
