Two military officers have been taken into custody after they were accused of sexual assault and filming of threats against a female first lieutenant, police in Bangkok said on Saturday.
The victim filed a complaint on Friday at the Bang Phlat police station, accompanied by Pavena Hongsakula, founder of the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women.
The 29-year-old first lieutenant, who is attached to a military regiment, said the retired lieutenant-general had kept her as a mistress and physically assaulted her. When she attempted to end the relationship, the officer abducted her, taking her to a motel where he raped her, she said.
The man and his accomplice, a serving captain, recorded the assault on video to threaten her and prevent her from reporting the case, she added.
Maj Gen Winthai Suwaree, the Royal Thai Army spokesman, acknowledged that the two officers had been implicated and the judicial process was under way.
The lieutenant-general was retired and the captain served in the same unit as the victim, Maj Gen Winthai said, adding that the captain would also be subject to military disciplinary proceedings.
The army pledged full cooperation to ensure fairness for the female officer.
After receiving the complaint on Friday, police obtained arrest warrants for the duo on charges of sexual assault, physical assault, coercion and unlawful detention.
The retired officer reportedly surrendered on Friday night while his alleged accomplice was apprehended at a residence in Nonthaburi.
Investigators at the Bang Phlat police station said both accused individuals were taken to the Taling Chan Criminal Court on Saturday for detention hearings.
Police filed objections to bail as the charges were severe and carried heavy penalties.
