Salón del Videojuego de Madrid 2025 is a video featuring a conversation with famed game designer John Romero (thanks Rock Paper Shotgun). The conversation is in English, and then translated to Spanish for the audience. The topic is The Romero’s recent book, but there’s news in there, as he reveals that the first-person shooter that was in the works at Romero Games before it lost its funding is contributing to a much smaller project that he and the team are very exited about, saying: "I’ve never played a game like this before." Here’s more:
"So, we survived the cancellation of our huge game. There’s a really good 110 people working on the game every day for years. So, the game’s been basically completely redesigned," Romero states. "The new game has nothing to do with the previous game, but it incorporates a lot of the elements that we had in the previous game, so we’re not starting at ground zero. We have 50 million worth of a game we can take pieces out of and put into a brand new indie game."
"So we have a lot of stuff to put in the game and the design is completely different, but the team is really excited about the new design. It’s a very much smaller game. It’s more fun for us, because the people working on it were all directors of different departments and they didn’t actually get to code or design or whatever, do it themselves. And so now we get to actually do that do the thing that we’re really good at ourselves. And that’s why small teams are great"
