A couple of months ago I followed up on my purchase of a new mouse and keyboard from KeyChron. This was going well, though I mentioned concerns I’d seen about customer service. This came to mind when my mouse recently started behaving oddly, with laggy response and in some cases no reaction to my inputs at all. I went through some troubleshooting steps and made no progress. This came to mind when my mouse recently started behaving oddly, with laggy response and in some cases no reaction to my inputs at all. I went through some troubleshooting steps and made no progress. Then I noticed what I’d overlooked. The optical sensor has one of those Teflon-coated skates surrounding it like a tiny slippery racetrack. And true to how mice are packaged, it had its own tiny bit of protective plastic tape over it that’s meant to be peeled off before use. I missed this when removing the other bits, and after using the mouse for a while, it dislodged and proceeded to mess with the sensor. Removing it was a one-second fix and I was good to go. So the good news is that I didn’t have a problem. The bad news is that this reminds me my mouse has Teflon feet. We don’t use it in our kitchen because PTFE can release harmful fumes if heated beyond 300°C. So this is a reminder to take it easy when moving my mouse with my lightning reflexes.
