Hey Peeps. . I just used Macrum Reflect for the first time, and I think I did it correctly. I chose the option "Create an image of the partions required to backup and restore Windows. I choose the C drive, of course. . it only took about 3 and a half minutes. Is that normal? I done a clean install last night. I’m currently having to reinstall all of my software. Just seems like 3 and a half minutes wasn’t long enough. It was 27.06GB total.

You want to keep your image(s) ideally on a separate drive, machine, or other device. An internal drive is not ideal since if it fails to boot, what are you left with?

Once you have made an image you can archive and move them to other drives (such as external ones) if you wish. Just move the image file as you would any other file. The speed of a backup depends on your hardware and disk drive. 27Gb isn’t much tbh in the scheme of a full Windows install with lots of files and programs and so on so it will seem fairly quick. The image file will be a smaller due to Macrium’s compression.
What you should now

is do a restore from that image to prove to yourself it all works.

Just seems like 3 and a half minutes wasn't long enough\. It was 27\.06GB total\.
Which version or Reflect did you use? I'd guess it's most likely to be Reflect X, either as a 30-day trial or a subscription purchase, though there's a possibility it was the discontinued Reflect Free v8\. One of the selling points for Reflect X is its speed of imaging, up to twice as fast as the previous Reflect v8\.1 is claimed\.
What speed you achieve in practice depends on a number of factors, the speed of your CPU, the level of compression you choose, the read speed of source drive, and the write speed of the destination drive you write the image to\. If you choose to auto verify the image after creation that can take nearly as long as making the image did\.
One of the slowest ways to make an image would be saving it to an external USB HDD\. One of the fastest would be to an internal nVME SSD\.
If you're using Reflect X then your 3 and a half minutes for 27GB sounds reasonable\.
With the source and destination as internal nVME I typically see times of around 6 minutes to image and verify a 365GB system\.

>
>
>
>

I got the free version. I found it on MajorGeeks
Although Reflect Free v8.0 was retired on 1st Jan. 2024, it still works perfectly in Windows 11, even on the latest Insider Canary builds. In addition to MajorGeeks, it is still available to download from Macriumif you know where to look.
I have one Reflect X licence and a number of Reflect 8 perpetual licences. But I have more machines than licences, for the rest I use Reflect Free.
This Reflect Free timing example is for imaging a 45GB system from an internal SATA SSD to an external USB SATA SSD.

Yeah, some of the useful options of Macrium Reflect seem to buried\. To verify a backup file after the backup completes you can click on the Logs tab which lies at the top of the left hand column of information \(drives etc\.\)\. The Logs tab will open a list of backups you've made\. Just select the file you want to verify and click on Verify \(I'm typing this from memory but I think I'm remembering correctly ")
