The plot device is an organism with strange adaptations which enable it to consume stars. There is a surprising amount of science involved, but it is delivered so nonchalantly that even if you weren’t interested in any of the geeky bits you’d have a great time. It checks all the boxes for me:

I was discussing the book with one of my coworkers last week, and the question came up about what we would have chosen at the end of the book. We both went with what played out, but it was fun talking about why we both chose that way.

Loved it! Rating this one as Great.

And apparently there’s a movie in the works? I refused to see the Martian because Matt Damon, but Ryan Gosling…hmm.
