Fair warning, just about all the answers here will have spoilt something. But without further ado, who had your favorite defeat sequence in fiction(be it from their POV or anothers)

In Kengan Ashura, because of the way the tournament plays out there are many great ones but my favorite one and one of the sadddest ones has to be Saw Paings, as he trying to stay conciouss for dear victory, he starts seeing something, it's his family the Village of Dawn in Burma, but he lets go of the grip and gets struck again, the concussion is too much the image is fading, he strike back but it's not enough he's losing the vision, one final gambit his Hammer headbutt and a deep elbow like the one he used to overcome Karo of the Sea, just these two once more but... it's not enough his strike get struck before its inception right at the center of his neck, the vision the village it fades like dust to the wind, Saw Paing passes out and that is his lose "It's over" like what a tragedy
