If you want to deconstruct a building, rail, or platform in StarRupture, you need to hit F on your keyboard. This will bring out your deconstruction gun. You can then point the reticle at any building you wish to remove, and hold the left mouse button while the timing circle ticks down. At the end, the building will disappear without a fuss.
The really good news is that you will get a refund of any building materials that you used in the construction of the building in the first place. This allows you to experiment and learn without being punished for simply not knowing the optimal way to do things, which is a great system.
