The recall, which originally went into effect in February 2025, pertained to tuna products sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brand names. This updated recall was initiated after Tri-Union Seafoods discovered that cases of the affected product were accidentally shipped to retail stores in nine states.
The third-party distributor mistakenly sent the product to Meijer stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin; Giant Foods stores in Maryland and Virginia; and Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions stores in California.

Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil with the UPC code 4800073265, can codes S84N D2L or S84N D3L, and a best if used by date of 1/21/2028 and 1/24/2028.
Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Sea Salt, UPC code 4800013275, with a best if used by date of 1/17/2028.
According to the recall notice, consumers should not use the product even if it doesn’t appear or smell spoiled, and anyone feeling unwell should "seek immediate medical attention." The FDA urges anyone with a recalled tuna can to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, throw it away, or contact Tri-Union Seafoods directly for a retrieval kit and a coupon for a replacement.
