During this timeframe, you can decide whether you want to continue using the browser extension and become a paying subscriber. Afterward, LanguageTool’s grammar checker and paraphraser will stop working for free users on the extension.

Over the past few years, the cost of providing our users a competitive grammar checker has increased considerably. It’s no longer sustainable to proceed as is, especially since the majority of our 6 million browser extension users use the service for free. Relying on business models like advertising or selling our users’ data would potentially allow us to continue a free service but are absolutely contrary to our company’s values.

Can I still use the website for free?
Yes. Only the browser extension will be exclusive to Premium users.
What happens after the 14-day trial ends?
LanguageTool’s browser extension will stop underlining grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. Additionally, the paraphrasing and synonym functionality will stop working.
Is LanguageTool’s server still open-source?
Yes. If you are a developer, you can still host and run your own instance of LanguageTool’s server. The browser extension will continue to work as it currently does for users who use it with their own server.
