Jubilant is a Python API for Juju, a deployment and operations tool created by Canonical.

While Jubilant itself is very simple, this article describes some design choices that might be interesting to other developers: the use of Python’s subprocess.run, code generation to create Python dataclasses from Go structs, and the use of Make and uv.

I don’t usually write directly about work stuff on this website, but why not? Almost everything we make at Canonical is open source, and Jubilant is no exception.

Plus, I’m jubilant about the name – it was named by my colleague Dave Wilding.
