The new IKEA GREJSIMOJS collection: bold, colorful furniture that adds personality to your home. Here’s why this “kids” line is actually perfect for playful adults.
So IKEA dropped this new collection called GREJSIMOJS (which apparently means “thingamajig” and good luck pronouncing it), and I need to talk about it because it’s genuinely weird in the best possible way.
They’re calling it a kids’ collection, but honestly, I want it in my house. This stuff is wild, and I dare say, one of IKEA’s most exciting collections in recent years.
Okay, But What Actually Is The GREJSIMOJS

There’s a storage ottoman that has teeth. Like, you open it up, and there’s this grinning monster mouth inside, ready to eat your throw blankets or whatever.
They made speakers that look like mice in purple and green. The iconic MAMMUT chair—you know, that chunky plastic kids’ chair? Now, it comes with a fuzzy cover in hot pink or bright blue.
Oh, and there’s a giraffe lamp. When the designer was making prototypes, apparently, everyone who walked past her desk couldn’t resist patting it on the head.
Why I Think This Is Actually Genius

You know how most furniture just kind of … there? It does its job, fills a space, maybe, looks nice if you’re lucky. But it doesn’t really make you feel anything.
These pieces are different. They have presence. A dog-shaped table lamp isn’t trying to disappear into your decor — it’s sitting there being a whole personality. And weirdly, that can work better than playing it safe with another generic work lamp.
Anna Granath, who led the design identity for this collection, said something interesting. The designers were thinking about how a rug could be a statement piece for adults while also being a wild landscape for a kid crawling around on it. That dual perspective is what makes these objects feel layered instead of just gimmicky.
The Color Situation

IKEA also announced their 2026 Color of the Year, which they’re calling Rebel Pink, though I question how “rebellious” is a pastel pink?
That said, I personally feel it’s wildly better than Cloud Dancer? C’mon Pantone, we’ve been living in the era of millennial gray and sad beige for way too long.
Sometimes a room needs a shot of unapologetic color to feel alive.
The thing about bold color in small doses—like a furry pink chair cover or purple mouse speakers—is that it gives you an easy entry point without committing to painting entire walls. You can test the waters of having an actual personality in your space.
There’s Research Behind the Chaos

IKEA did this whole Play Report and found that over half of parents want more play in their lives, but can’t figure out how to make it happen. And while they framed this around families, I keep thinking about how true that is for everyone.
When do you actually interact with your furniture in a way that’s fun? When does your home surprise you or make you smile?
The design team identified five types of play—Explore, Create, Imagine, Move, and Compete—and built objects that tap into those instincts. Which sounds very corporate and strategic, but the result is stuff like a rocking bird (instead of a rocking horse) that’s part toy, part sculpture, and entirely something you’d want to look at every day.
Who This Is Really For

One of the designers, Marta Krupińska, mentioned that some of them were inspired by objects they wanted to play with as kids but weren’t allowed to touch. So they made a collection where nothing is off-limits.
That resonates with me because I think a lot of us learned to make our homes these precious, untouchable spaces. Everything has to vibe together; nothing can be too out of place or questionable in style.
But what if your lamp was a giraffe? What if your storage ottoman had a monster mouth? What if your furniture actually reflected that you’re a person with a sense of humor and a willingness to try something different?
Playful Launch in Feb 2026

GREJSIMOJS launches in February 2026, and I’m genuinely curious to see how people use these pieces. Because yeah, they’re playful and quirky, but they’re also just really well-designed objects that happen to have character.
Maybe that’s what’s been missing from a lot of interiors lately. Not more stuff, but more things that make you feel something when you walk past them. More furniture with a point of view.
Anyway, I’m probably getting the cactus. And possibly the cat storage. Which one will you be eyeing?
