Rogue Amoeba has updated its SoundSource audio control utility to version 6.0, a major upgrade that brings dozens of new features and refinements, including grouped output devices and integrated AirPlay streaming. With grouped output devices, you can play audio through multiple outputs (both per-app audio and all of the Mac’s audio) at once after setting up a group. The new AirPlay support lets you stream audio throughout your home to devices like HomePods, Sonos systems, and more, enabling you to route an individual application to one or more AirPlay devices while playing the rest of your audio from a local output.

The new Audio Devices window provides a wealth of options for all connected audio devices, including key settings (such as volume, balance, and sample rate), preferred device order, and maximum volume. The release also introduces Quick Configs, which let you save complete audio configurations and access them from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the menu bar control popover.
SoundSource 6.0 also provides more controls for automating things with Apple’s Shortcuts, allows you to set Bluetooth devices like AirPods to be used exclusively for output to improve sound quality, introduces user-configurable keyboard shortcuts, adds a preamp to the built-in 10-Band EQ, enables the built-in Headphone EQ effect to be applied to specific applications, improves menu bar meter readability on secondary displays, and ensures a 0% volume setting now always correctly shows as muted. The audio handling ARK plugin has been updated to version 13, and SoundSource 6 now requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Now priced at $49 for new licenses, you can upgrade to SoundSource 6 for $25.
