Whoopi Goldberg and her fellow co-hosts on “The View” condemned Donald Trump over his controversial response to the tragic death of Rob Reiner, the legendary actor and filmmaker who died at 78 years old along with his wife in an apparent homicide. Trump reacted to the news by claiming Reiner’s death was “due to the anger he caused others” from being outspoken against Trump (aka “Trump Derangement System,” as the president likes to call it). Reiner’s son, Nick, was arrested and taken into custody in connection to the deaths of his parents.
When “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin started reading Trump’s reaction to Reiner’s death live on air, Goldberg chimed in and adviser her to stop by saying: “Don’t read it, just tell them that it’s there.” Hostin said of the post: “I don’t think that’s something we should be hearing about.”
Ana Navarro then delivered a blistering takedown of Trump’s response in which she said: “For Trump to have put that out today, I’m gonna say it: You know, damn it, there’s an American family grieving. This is a tragedy, not just for the family, but for all who knew and loved him, and for the President of the United States to make this about him as a way to attack Rob Reiner, because he exercised his American right to speak up with what he disagreed with, is shameful. It is disgraceful. And of all the disgusting things that Donald Trump has done, this is right up there.”
Trump made his statement on Reiner in a post on his Truth Social profile. The president wrote: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Goldberg was directed by Reiner in the 1996 drama film “Ghosts of Mississippi” and praised him as “an outspoken activist and quite a guy, quite an amazing man.”
Nick Reiner, the late director’s 32-year-old son, is being held on suspicion of murdering the director and his wife. His bail has been set at $4 million.
