High Country killer Greg Lynn will learn his fate in Victoria’s Court of Appeal after his legal team challenged both his murder conviction and his 32-year jail sentence.
A Supreme Court jury last year found Lynn guilty of murdering retiree Carol Clay at a campsite they shared in Victoria’s High Country in March 2020, but acquitted him of murdering her companion, Russell Hill.
Lynn has always maintained his innocence, saying the pair died tragic, accidental deaths following a dispute involving a knife and one of his guns.

Greg Lynn’s legal team say he is vulnerable in jail
By Judd Boaz
Lynn’s lawyer Dermot Dann KC also argued the length of Lynn’s 32-year prison sentence created the prospect that the 59-year-old would either die in jail or be released in his 80s, "destroying the prospect of a useful life".
He also told the court Lynn was a vulnerable prisoner.
Mr Dann said Lynn had experienced an assault and pandemic restrictions during his incarceration, plus a three-year wait for his trial, which Mr Dann said should have been taken into consideration for his sentence.

What is the defence’s argument?
By Judd Boaz
Greg Lynn lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence in November last year on** four key grounds**, with his defence team spearheaded by leading barrister Dermot Dann KC.
Among their arguments, Lynn’s legal team say:
- Crown prosecutor Daniel Porceddu "launched a sustained attack" on the credibility of Lynn’s story about what happened at Bucks Camp in the Wonangatta Valley, without giving him an opportunity to respond.
- That Mr Porceddu also introduced new material, including theories, in his closing address.
- The evidence of Victoria Police ballistics expert Paul Griffiths "involved a further serious departure from the rules that govern the fair conduct of criminal trials".
- The 32-year jail term imposed by Justice Michael Croucher was "manifestly excessive".

Greg Lynn’s abusive past revealed
By Judd Boaz
Until recently, years-long suppression orders from the Supreme Court have barred reporting on many details of Greg Lynn’s past.
Media outlets, including the ABC, fought in court to overturn the order and reveal Lynn’s past police interactions and the circumstances of his first wife’s death.
The ABC’s Elise Kinsella and **Rachael Brown **spoke with the family of Lisa Lynn, Greg Lynn’s first wife, about the convicted killer’s history of domestic abuse.

Greg Lynn appealing 32-year jail term
By Judd Boaz
In October last year, Greg Lynn was sentenced to 32 years’ jail for the shooting death of camper Carol Clay in Victoria’s High Country.
Prosecutors said the former Jetstar pilot shot Ms Clay, 73, in the head during a fight that also claimed the life of Ms Clay’s secret lover, Russell Hill, 74.
A jury found Lynn guilty of Ms Clay’s murder but acquitted him of murdering Mr Hill in the Wonnangatta Valley on March 20, 2020.
Lynn maintains his innocence and his lawyers challenged the guilty verdict in the Court of Appeal.
