SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO — Police shot a man early Monday morning after he allegedly brandished a knife at officers, authorities said.

The man, who was identified only as being in his 20s, was transported to a local trauma hospital where he was in critical condition, according to a press release from the South San Francisco Police Department.

Around 5:10 a.m. Monday, police were alerted that a man on the 900 block of Sandra Court, armed with a knife, was under the influence of drugs and making suicidal comments, authorities said.

As officers spoke with the person who reported the incident outside, the man emerged from a residence.
