It’s an exciting week in KDE Plasma development land ahead of the holidays. Plasma 6.6 continues tacking on more feature work for Wayland.

This week the KDE Plasma screen mirroring support under Wayland is in good shape for Plasma 6.6 along with other exciting changes:

• "Massively improved" support for screen mirroring under the Wayland session for Plasma 6.6. This bug report since February 2024 has sought proper output mirroring support for KDE on Wayland. With Plasma 6.6 next year it should be working "really well" or for those riding the 6.6 development state. This merge to KScreen outlines some of the fixes merged this week for screen mirroring:

Commit 1 is just a refactor / bugfix for edge cases Commit 2 prevents the user from mirroring a disabled screen, which would get the KCM all confused and buggy Commit 3 makes changing the scale on replication sources work properly, without any weird warnings about gaps or overlaps between outputs

• The kscreen-doctor tool can also be used with Plasma 6.6 for setting custom screen modes in the Wayland session.

• Another Wayland improvement is the KWin rule to force a titlebar and frame will now also work for windows of native-Wayland apps.

• KWin will now set a reasonable default scaling factor for newly-connected TVs.

• With Plasma 6.6 the Window List widget lets you filter out windows not on the current screen, virtual desktop, or activity.

• Plasma 6.5.5 will fix a regression that caused screen freezes on some hardware right before power management was enabling.
