The Seagate Expansion drive isn’t meant for speed-critical data transfers, such as video editing or gaming directly off the drive, but rather as a long-term storage and data backup solution. Whether you’re archiving old projects, offloading media libraries, or creating backups, this external HDD offers excellent value per terabyte, especially at its current discounted price. It is essentially a traditional desktop hard disk drive contained inside a rugged plastic enclosure with a USB 3.0 port for data transfer, which isn’t the fastest but is still good enough for large data backups.
In addition to the USB connection, a dedicated power source is also required, so make sure you have an additional outlet next to your PC. The drive has a fairly small form factor, measuring 1.65 x 7.04 x 4.92 inches and weighing 2.64 pounds.
It is compatible with Windows, Chrome, and Mac operating systems, although for the latter, it is recommended to reformat the drive to enable Time Machine compatibility. An 18-inch USB 3.0 cable and an 18W power adapter are included with the drive. Seagate also offers its Rescue Data Recovery Services software for data backups along with a one-year standard warranty for customers in the U.S.
