Challenge yourself with Fail on Error and Backspace Disabled typing modes

We’re adding two new typing modes to the TypeQuicker typing interface. This is a small feature update but it was highly requested by several users.

Introducing Backspace Disabled and Fail on Error modes

Available Modes

Normal

This was the default mode. Backspace and mistakes are allowed. This typing mode behaves as any typing interface would in any editor. Unlike some typing apps which have "safeguards" to prevent you from making mistakes. For example, MonkeyType by default doesn’t allow you to continue typing after about ~8 consecutive mistypes. TypeQuicker doesn’t have anything like that - I’ve always intended for the interface to simulate the reality of typing like you would anywhere else. However, while this is the default behaviour, it may not be the most fun nor the best to train new typing habits. So, after some back-and-forth with some of our most active users, we’ve decided to add the following two modes.

Backspace Disabled

This mode prevents you from using the backspace key (as well as the Alt/Option + Backspace to delete last word) during a typing session. Every keystroke counts and it forces the user to avoid relying on the backspace. This forces you to be more deliberate with each keypress and re-enforces good accuracy.

Fail on Error

The strictest mode. Your session ends immediately and you are taken to the next text in the queue. It’s very punishing and it’s an excellent session if you want to focus on accuracy. Personally, I consistently struggle getting through a full typing session without restarting - the most frustrating is when you make a mistake on the last word.

How to Switch Modes

Both modes are available in our Text Practice, Code Practice and Ten Key Typing practice. You can toggle between them either in the Settings page or via the typing mode toggle in the bottom right by clicking on the shield icon.
