Introduction

Back when I was still doing software development, I relied on simple tools to manage and visualize systems — index cards for tracking requirements, whiteboards for mapping flows, and pen and paper to debug. Now that I’m more focused on system administration, virtualization has become my go-to tool for experimenting and learning.

With virtual machines, I can quickly spin up environments, test changes, snapshot and roll back when needed — all without touching physical hardware. For large projects, I like to build realistic prototypes early on. Walking through each piece of the system in a virtual environment helps catch problems before the real thing goes live.
