Nvidia has rolled out a new software security update for its GPU display driver, which takes care of three vulnerabilities, labelled as “high” severity.
As per the announcement, the first high-severity issue was for Windows users, where “an attacker could trigger a use after free.” If the attacker succeeded, then it could lead to “code execution, escalation of privileges, data tampering, denial of service, and information disclosure.”
The second high-severity issue was once again for Windows users, but this time, in the “kernel mode layer (nvlddmkm.sys), where an attacker could cause an integer overflow.” If the attacker succeeded, then it could result in the above-listed issues. The third high-severity issue was for Linux users, with the vulnerability being in the “NVIDIA kernel module where an attacker could cause an integer overflow or wraparound.”
A successful exploit in this would have also resulted in the above-mentioned issues.
Adding further, the announcement also mentions an update to the VGPU software, specifically in the “Virtual GPU Manager, where a malicious guest could cause heap memory access after the memory is freed.” Upon succeeding, an attacker would have been able to conduct the issues mentioned above.
Team Green has also taken care of a vulnerability of medium severity in the Nvidia HD Audio Software for Windows. In this, “an attacker could exploit a NULL pointer dereference issue”, which could lead to denial of service.
At the same time, Nvidia has also dropped a software security update display driver for Maxwell, Volta, and Pascal-series GeForce GPUs, which are no longer supported by Game Ready Drivers.
Meanwhile, at CES 2026, Nvidia announced DLSS 4.5 upscaling technology, which comes in with a second generation of the Transformer model.
